Hogs take the spotlight at the Alpena County Fair, 4-H Club celebrates first ever reunion

Over 40 pigs were shown in four different classes. Morgan Burr was crowned Novice Grand Champion and Kiera Werth won reserve or second overall. The pigs weren’t the only stars of the show.For the first time ever, the 4-H Club held a reunion for all members of 4-H from Northeast Michigan and the United States. 4-H is an organization that teaches responsible treatment of animals and the importance of livestock to communities. The club also promotes volunteering and helping out in local communities. The organization has played a big role for Alpena County Fair Director Lynn Borke.“4-H gets in your heart and it doesn’t leave,” said Borke. “It’s why I’m still here after all this time that it’s an incredible program and people that have been in 4-H… there’s just something special about it for them.”A number of livestock shows will continue throughout the rest of the week. Along with the showings, folks can watch racing derbies, enjoy stand-up comedy, ride carnival rides, and have good old fashion fun.
