The Tuscaloosa Police Department held their regular “Coffee with a Cop” series Wednesday at Monarch Espresso Bar in downtown Tuscaloosa. The event is part of a nationally recognized effort to encourage engagement and discussion between the community and law enforcement.Police Chief Steve Anderson remarked that having the department embrace the community is one of the most important ways the police department can keep Tuscaloosa crime free.“I think it’s a great opportunity to be able to react with them, come out and support them, learn from their viewpoint of things, and learn what all’s going on from them. I think it’s a great thing to be able to interact with the police department,” said Michael Stewart, a Tuscaloosa resident who attended the event. The police department hopes the event encourages productive discussion by getting everyone to sit down and chat over a nice cup of coffee. If you missed “Coffee with a Cop” this week, the department will be holding another event on Oct. 9 at the Skyland Blvd. Chick-Fil-A from 7:00-9:00 am.
